Beat the Heat With BeLeaf
Summer has fully kicked into gear, and if you're one of the millions currently under the heat dome that is roasting a large part of the United States, you have no doubts that it is hot out there. While, of course, the best advice is to stay out of the sun, stay hydrated, and generally avoid anything that can overwork yourself, sometimes our body doesn't care how much we try to keep cool; you feel that heat one way or another.
Our Endocannabinoid System, or ECS, plays a significant role in regulating internal body temperature and can adjust it in response to various bodily conditions. For example, when your body is fighting a virus, the ECS is the reason you get a fever; it reacts to your body's fight against the invader and raises your core temperature to help eliminate it.
However, your ECS can also respond incorrectly, causing your internal temperature to rise or fall rapidly or suddenly without any apparent reason. For example, women tend to battle these types of responses during perimenopause with night sweats and heat flashes. Someone with an auto-immune disease who has an issue with uncontrolled inflammation may have a sudden reaction that causes a rise in their body temperature.
If you've been reading our blogs or paying attention to our social media, you know by now that CBD can play a big role in helping regulate your Endocannabinoid System. As CBD and various terpenes interact with your ECS, they work to help keep your body in homeostasis, and this applies to your body temperature.
While there haven't been any significant studies on using CBD for temperature regulation, there have been some smaller studies, including one with animals that tested CBD's role in breaking a fever. Circumstantial evidence suggests that CBD may help lower your internal temperature or assist the ECS in adjusting it more appropriately. Many women on social media have turned to CBD to help with Menopause symptoms, including hot flashes and night sweats.
So, can CBD help keep you cool during these hot summer days? It isn't a yes-or-no answer. What BeLeaf can do is help keep your ECS in homeostasis and combat inflammation, in part will allow your body to do what it does best to keep your internal temperature in control, which will allow the other parts of your body to react appropriately to stay cool when met with the steamy summer air and blazing hot sun.
